Assessment
Assessment is integral to all aspects of teaching and learning and is central to the PYP goal of thoughtfully and effectively guiding students through the five essential elements of learning. The prime objective of assessment is to provide feedback on the learning process.
RASA students and teachers active engage in assessing students’ progress as part of the development of their wider critical-thinking and self-assessment skills. Students are observed in a variety of situations by a wide range of assessment strategies. A critical component of the assessment process is both student and teacher self-assessment and reflection.
While only a modest component of the overall student assessment process, RASA does periodically deliver standardized achievement tests such as the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tool to determine how children have progressed. This computerized adaptive assessment, aligned to each state’s measurement scales and content standards, covers core knowledge components of mathematics, reading, language use, and science. The assessment tool uses a stable scale that accurately measures what a child knows and needs to learn, independent of their grade level or age. For more information on MAP visit www.nwea.org
RASA students 2010-11 scores demonstrate that every student performed above the national mean in both language arts and mathematics. See the images below.
